Happy Birthday Revlon……..

Yes, Revlon is 80 years old this year and still looks fabulous (but hey that’s the beauty business) – so here are some facts and figures about the brand …….

Founded in all 1932 by Charles Haskell Revson age 26, his older brother Joseph and a chemist named Charles Lachman (the ‘L’ in Revlon). During the depression the only shades of nail enamel available were pale and transparent. Charles, Joseph & Charles created the first ever opaque coloured nail enamels and sold these door to door.  The most famous of this was of course Revlon Red – which is still a big seller today
The concept of “Matching Lips & Tips” was born in 1939 as Revson was in a restaurant and saw a women having a drink and noticed her lips did not match her fingers tips so he set about creating a lipstick to match each of his famous Nail Enamel shades- some of these colours are still iconic today: Cherries in the Snow and Revlon Red and they are still both some of the best-selling lipsticks and nail enamel shades.

These are the other cosmetic firsts from Revlon:
First cream eye shadow (1940’s)
First waterproof Non-Solvent Mascara (1940’s)
The creation of blusher (blush-on) (1962)
First mass market female fragrance with Charlie (1973) –The first ever advertising campaign to depict a woman going to work and wearing trousers!
First make up with Silicone base (1986)
First long wear Lipstick (1990’s) & long wear foundations
So if you’re looking to get back to old school glamour with your “Matching Lips & Tips” ……. Then Boots have a great selection including Revlon Red and Cherries in the Snow…….
