The Nonpareil of Fashion.

Victoria Loftus snore-fest.blogspot.co.uk

Our wonderful Manchester correspondent has been out and about to Harvey Nichols looking at the Nichol Farhi range in the presence of the designer.

'A crown is merely a hat that lets the rain in'. What a quote, and more importantly, what an apt quote for this week.

In spite of the wet weather, Wednesday saw one of fashions royalty make a state visit North, to Harvey Nichols Manchester. Escaping from the drizzle-laden outside there were no dampened spirits inside when Nicole Farhi presented her SS/12 collection.

Admitting she'd never been to the city before, Farhi worked the crowd before the trunk show. Alongside the delicious canapés and free flowing fizz, Farhi engaged with her Northern customers to reveal the person behind the brand.

An intimate setting showcased Farhi's usually muted palette evolution into bursts of colour. Inspired by a trip to Delhi, hints of impending Olympics littered the collection whilst simultaneously boasting notes of the Nicole Farhi signature that we know and love. Blending her love of the past with modern finishes and techniques:; the fabric experimentation was resplendent.

Farhi's knowledge of her customer radiated from the assembly. Her Franco-Anglo perspective and sculpting background prevailed in this wearable, contemporary working-woman friendly collection. The bias cut was repeated throughout, varying in extremities; from a subtle checkerboard dress inspired by scarves, to a great cocooned coat made of parachute nylon structured in a way that was reminiscent of rose petals wrapping the body. It screamed precision.

Typically versatile yet atypical in shades. Wednesday affirmed that whilst Spring might not be sprung just yet, the Nicole Farhi Spring/Summer collection is dubbed a definite scorcher.
