V&A and John Lewis Kaiyo Wallpaper Panel Set £80.00 (Shop Now)

The eclectic mix of pattern at the V&A inspired a desire to blend motifs: old with new, nature with geometry, soft with graphic, simple with decorative. By morphing decorative motifs and contemporary geometric patterns together, the intention is to generate a sense of modernity, capturing both past and present. When interpreting the patterns into a wallpaper, we wanted to capture some of the drama, opulence and rich colour found in the Museum’s collection of Japanese art and design. John Lewis  have worked with an expert UK based printer to create a large scale digitally printed panel which acts as a modern interpretation of a traditional screen or wall hanging using subtle shimmer and metallics to emulate the lustre of woven and embroidered silks.

V&A and John Lewis Jones LED Wall Light £75.00 (Shop Now)

When lit, this deceptively simple design casts dramatic patterns of light, mirroring the V&A’s rich heritage of Islamic art. The illuminated flower petal effect reflects the influence of Owen Jones, a champion of Islamic art. In The Grammar of Ornament (1856), he asserted that the most beautiful decorative art always re-creates forms found in nature. His work with the V&A, showcasing and celebrating Islamic artistic traditions, was hugely influential in popularising the style.
