Winter Sunshine Holidays

Let go of those wintertime blues and explore a destination with sun, sea and sand, what could be better than dining alfresco or lounging on the beach in February or March as the winds howl and the rain pours back home.

So take a pick up your tropical cocktail and enjoy the view from one of these resorts, just a short flight to sunshine.

The Cliff Bay Madeira with Kuoni (Check Availability)

This highly sophisticated retreat boasts spellbinding views, elegant facilities and Michelin-starred dining.

This renowned resort cuts a dramatic figure, perched atop a natural promontory with enchanting Atlantic Ocean views. Beautifully manicured tropical gardens surround the hotel, where you’ll find plenty of secluded corners shaded by palm trees.

After an indulgent Champagne breakfast, take the lift down from the clifftop and make your way to the sunbathing platform by the hotel’s jetty to enjoy views across the bay to Funchal, or there’s direct sea access for swimming and snorkelling. The pool area is equally gorgeous – cool off in one of the two pools or grab a terrace table at the Blue Lagoon Snack Bar & Restaurant for delicious fresh salads and barbecued fish. Dining options are excellent – for bold Mediterranean flavours, choose The Rose Garden buffet restaurant, or for something special, you have Madeira’s first two-Michelin-starred restaurant, Il Gallo d’Oro. Chef Benoît Sinthon combines fresh local ingredients to create a fabulously aromatic menu. After dinner, it’s time for a Madeira Night cocktail and live music at Le Cliff Bar and Bistro.

Twin Rooms have either land, or sea views. Upgrade to one of the lovely Superior Seaview Rooms which are located on the top four floors and include complimentary soft drinks from the minibar and à la carte breakfast at Il Gallo d’Oro.

Lopesan Villa Del Conde Resort & Corallium Thalasso Gran Canaria with Kuoni (CheckAvailability)

This welcoming village-style resort has a peaceful setting near Meloneras promenade and exceptional wellness facilities. This resort impresses from the moment you’re welcomed with a cool glass of cava in the grand lobby – a stunning replica of one of Gran Canaria’s oldest churches, complete with two main towers, a bell tower and a central dome. The resort is designed in the style of a traditional village and the beautifully manicured gardens are dotted with palms that provide welcome shade as you explore the expansive grounds. There's no shortage of activities here, from Pilates and aqua aerobics to tennis and Spanish lessons; but despite its size and impressive range of facilities you can always find tranquil pockets to relax and the magnificent Thalasso centre offers a picturesque setting at the edge of the sea and a revitalising Thalassotherapy circuit. With a great choice of pools, you can swim a few laps, relax by the tranquillity pool, or watch the kids splash around in the children’s pool. A man-made beach edges one of the pools so you can feel the sand between your toes without ever leaving the resort. That said, the small sand and shingle beach of Meloneras is just a ten-minute stroll away.

There’s plenty of choice at breakfast and La Plaza, the main buffet restaurant, also offers themed buffets in the evening. An à la carte restaurant offers grilled meat specialties, and a pool bar and grill is open for lunch. When the sun sets, you can enjoy the regular evening entertainment, work your way through the menu of cocktails at the lobby bar or head to the roof terrace of Tizziri for al fresco drinks.

The spacious Standard Rooms are set in colourful blocks and each has a living area. Upgrade to a Standard Balcony Room for garden views or a Standard Balcony Seaview Room for views of the ocean. The hugely spacious Junior Suites and Senior Suites are ideal for families as they have a living room with a sofabed, as well as a large balcony or terrace and free Wi-Fi.

Perched high above Playa del Duque, this luxury hotel offers a peaceful setting, incredible views and fabulous facilities.

Escape the crowds at this welcoming resort that is firmly focused on relaxation. Ideal for couples and families with small children in search of somewhere quiet to unwind, there are beautiful gardens that house six inviting swimming pools, including a splash pool for children and an adult-only lap pool. Children can try out a range of activities at the mini club while adults can enjoy thermal circuits, including one set in a volcanic cave, at the superb Nammu Spa. Built on a former banana plantation, the resort blends classic colonial-style with chic contemporary touches – pretty courtyards lined with terracotta urns lie just around the corner from sleek pool decks dotted with comfy Balinese beds. The service is exceptional and the friendly staff go the extra mile to ensure that your stay is as relaxing as possible. In spite of its size, the hotel feels very intimate and more like a boutique hotel than a large resort.

You can soak up stunning sea views from the restaurants’ terraces, with fresh pancakes and an omelette station at breakfast and show cooking in the evening at The Buffet Restaurant. The à la carte restaurant, El Colonial, offers local cuisine with modern elements and La Jaima serves Mediterranean dishes during the day and transforms into El Mercado Grill restaurant at night. Spend a relaxing evening at the bar, La Biblioteca. The rooms are set in the main building and either face inland or offer side sea or panoramic sea views. We recommend upgrading to a Direct Seaview Room to make the most of the beautiful ocean views and watch the sunset from your balcony. For extra space and luxurious touches, opt for a Junior Suite Seaview which has a living room area, a romantic four-poster canopy bed and a terrace with full ocean views. The Garden Villas offer a more private setting and feature a four-poster bed and Jacuzzi in your own garden, while the Solarium Top-floor Villas have a roof-top terrace with Jacuzzi and sunbeds.

Overlooking a volcanic sandy beach, this resort offers a wealth of facilities as well as great design and slick service. La Maison Arabe Marrakech with Kuoni (Check Availability)

Authentic décor, fine dining and wonderful service combine for an enchanting Moroccan experience.
Nestled in the walls of Marrakech’s medina, La Maison Arabe provides an oasis of calm away from the lively souks. It’s small enough to offer a warm, welcoming atmosphere and personalised service, yet large enough to provide plenty of secluded spots to relax.

Fine dining is offered at Le Restaurant, where you can sample an exclusive local menu underneath a hand-painted zouaké ceiling accompanied by Arab-Andalucian music, or outside by the fountain on the pretty patio. Enter Les Trois Saveurs, lit by teardrop-shaped lanterns, and enjoy French, Moroccan and Asian cuisine inside or al fresco on the poolside terrace. As night falls, head to the 1930s-style Piano-Jazz Bar for classic pre- and post-dinner drinks. There’s also a refreshing central swimming pool in a courtyard strewn with olive trees and roses, and a spa with two hammams.

If you do want to get a little further out of the centre, then make the most of the hotel’s exclusive Country Club, just 15 minutes away by free shuttle service, where you’ll find a second pool in lush gardens and a further restaurant, Le Figuier. Back at the hotel, rooms and suites are housed in two buildings – patio side and garden side – that surround the swimming pool. Each is unique in décor and layout – most feature a fireplace and terrace, and all have a traditional marble bathroom and Wi-Fi.
